Resi's Bierstube is a German restaurant and bar tucked into Chicago’s Irving Park neighborhood, offering a straightforward and comforting dive into classic German fare paired with a well-curated beer selection. It’s the kind of spot where locals come to take a break from the city’s rush, especially those who appreciate an unpretentious atmosphere with a good dose of old-school charm.

The restaurant’s main appeal lies in its familiar German dishes like schnitzels, bratwursts, and the Sheboygan Sausage Dinner, which come with traditional sides such as sauerkraut and crispy fried potatoes. The menu doesn’t stray far from what one expects of a neighborhood Bierstube—reliable, hearty, and made with care rather than flair. Dinner can be rounded out by a house salad or classic potato salad, enhancing that homey vibe.

One highlight is the diverse and thoughtfully sourced beer lineup available on tap, featuring pilsners, lagers, and weissbiers from some of Bavaria’s most respected breweries. Whether you’re in the mood for a crisp Bitburger or something a bit fuller like the Ayinger Bavarian Pils, the variety supports both casual beer drinkers and enthusiasts looking to explore authentic German brews.

The atmosphere indoors has a cozy, well-lived-in feel, with memorabilia and decor that nod to both German tradition and Chicago roots. On warmer days, the patio provides a solid spot to enjoy a relaxed meal or drinks in the fresh air, making it a pleasant setting for family visits—even though the menu does not have a specific kids’ section, there’s enough flexibility to satisfy younger appetites without fuss.

Service is attentive without being overbearing, which suits the comfortable, communal tone of the place. It functions well for small groups, families, or anyone wanting to settle in with a cold beer and a simple, satisfying meal in a neighborhood that values authenticity over trendiness.

Overall, Resi’s Bierstube works best as a casual destination to experience straightforward German cooking paired with genuine bar culture in Chicago. It fits neatly into the landscape of Irving Park as a reliable stop for those who want their beer and sausage without any fuss.

Nice restaurant with a great patio. Good to bring kids over (even if they don't have a proper kids menu, it's easy to find something they like). The beers choice is great, very diverse and the staff is nice. The food is classic German food, not over the top but nice. They forgot part of our sides that was supposed to come with our dish but brought it in a box to bring back home.

Delightful family run bar and restaurant. The spatzel is homemade and the schnitzel is delicious. It's a great little bar.

Das essen war gut! The food was really good. There were four of us and we each had something different and the were all delicious. The waitress was on top of things and was always there to fill our water or bring us another beer. The Bar itself is just that, it's an older bar, lots of memorabilia hanging but it was nice too. We enjoyed our meal, with 4 meals and steins of beer our total came to about $97.00. We will go back.

We sat on the patio which is so nice! It has so much space and various table sizes. I ordered the sausage dinner with one bratwurst and one Sheboygan. Both were delicious! I also loved the potato salad it came with. It's the best potato salad I've had in my life. It's a different style than what I'm used to but much better.

This has been our go-to place for delicious German beer and wurst-especially in the summer when their patio is open. The small space is spacious so you do not feel cramped. The inside hasn’t changed and that just adds to the charm of a neighborhood bar where you can hang. The servers are friendly and accommodating. The food is superb. The menu offers a good variety of German food. Starting with the salad that is dressed with the best tasting vinaigrette ever. You can get just about every kind of wurst you’d want. The schnitzels are freshly prepared and tasty. The goulash soup is always a hearty choice especially when Chicago winters arrive.

When lachettes is closed, busy, or you want a patio, Resi’s is there for you. Nice selection of beers that don’t exactly match the menus from 1985.
